Integrating eMedia with MyLO
MyLO (Blackboard Vista) allows you to seamlessly integrate most common eMedia formats.
CD-ROM/DVD
The Local Content tool within MyLO allows users to link or reference files on CD-ROM or DVD direct from within MyLO, without slowing online access. This is particularly useful when large file sizes are concerned. Users load the CD-ROM or DVD to their local computer.
For more information about the Local Content tool, see the step-by-step guide Using the Local Content tool to access storage media [Word].
eMedia collections
With the Media Library tool in MyLO you can create a library of images, audio and video. Related items are organised as collections within the library. Individual items in the library can either be accessed from within content files or accessed as whole collections viewed with the Media Library tool made available to the user.
For more information about the Media Library tool, see the step-by-step guide Using the Media Library [Word].
Note: Third party, copyrighted materials will generally need to be placed in the University's digital copyright management system (currently Masterfile) and links made to these files from within MyLO .
Narrated PowerPoint presentations
You can integrate narrated PowerPoint presentations with MyLO in two main ways:
-
As PowerPoint files processed with Impatica software: In PowerPoint, narration can be recorded as the slide presentation proceeds. The narrated PowerPoint file can then be converted to Impatica file(s) for uploading to the UTAS streaming media or download server. A link to the file(s) is then placed within MyLO. See Impatica for PowerPoint for more information about this software.
-
Lectopia: A PowerPoint-based lecture can be recorded 'live' and the PowerPoint file uploaded manually to the Lectopia server. (The audio file is captured and uploaded separately, and automatically.) A link to the i-Lecture file (incorporating both the audio and PowerPoint presentation) is then placed within MyLO. See Lectopia for further information.
Streaming and downloading media links
You can add the URL addresses of files on a streaming media or download server using the Add URL tool in MyLO. Links can be placed on the Home Page, organiser pages, or within learning modules. You can also create links within content files using the HTML Editor tool.
Lectopia provides the facility to stream and/or download media files that have been pre-recorded or recorded through the automated service available within Lectopia venues. Files can be made available through MyLO or from the Lectopia unit webpage: http://www.utas.edu.au/itr/lectopia/.
